Not only do they provide an image of the sawmill, but a smart camera can also work as an independent smart system that analyzes the ease of the production process in real time and controls it without human control and operations. The system is already used by several sawmills, receiving comments such as: \u201cThis should have been implemented years ago\u201d, a great description of the experienced benefits of a smart camera.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The core of the smart camera is its built-in program that is able to recognize situations in the production process and send control signals directly to the production line. In practice, it works as an automation sensor, but producing significantly more information than traditional photocells.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the camera is able to scan an area of approximately 2.5m\u00b2, providing a comprehensive image of the material flow, as opposed to the observation of singular points provided by a photocell. This enables a more accurate and proactive reaction to the control. The solution often consists of multiple cameras that together follow the movement of the material and optimize how the different phase of the production proceed.<\/p>\n<p>The key benefit of the smart camera is the uniformity of production. For example, a smart camera is able to recognize pile-ups of material or abnormal situations, and control the conveyor in order to clear them. This helps avoid bottlenecks in production and enhance the use of capacity without the need for manual labor and increased human resources. The OT-Control smart camera system is the only system in Finland that also enables the buffering of material, i.e. the use of flexible resources of the production line between different phases of the process.<\/p>\n<div class=\"is-divider divider clearfix\" ><\/div>\n\n<h3>The right solution based on individual needs<\/h3>\n<p>The smart cameras can be integrated to existing production systems. In all cases, we send out an OT-Control expert to visit the sawmill in advance to ensure the smart cameras can be implemented within the existing production system, whether provided by OT-Control or not. This way, we are able to scale your needs accurately, and an offer including the right number of cameras will enhance the productivity of the process as cost-effectively as possible.<\/p>\n<p>We typically install 3 to 5 cameras on one site, but based on your needs, we can also use more than 5 or just a singular camera pointed to an identified critical point. The implementation is fast: in ideal scenarios, the installation, implementation, setting parameters and test run can be done within a long weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Smart cameras are practically maintenance-free.
